The Fluid State only works with selected agents and Philip Li flows right into our realm of inspirational artists.

Philip Li, renowned for his unconventional ceramics, is an emerging British artist who brings an exciting and visionary aesthetic to contemporary and pop art. Merging tradition with innovation, his most recent works incorporate ceramics with live-making performances, body-sculptures, and ceramic imagery.

Li, a multi-talented artist, blurs the boundaries between disciplines and genres, and adds his unique voice and stylistic vision to create contemporary statements through his art and through the transformations of his own personal image. Inspired by all aspects of contemporary and historical culture: fashion, music, pop culture, sex and politics – Li’s artistic productivity includes live art performances, sculptures, drawings and photographs.

Having only recently graduated from Camberwell College of Arts in 2009, Li has already performed at the London Palladium and Edinburgh Fringe, and exhibited at the British Ceramics Biennial, and the International Ceramics Festival. He has also previously produced work with Wieden + Kennedy London, White Cube and Wallpaper* magazine, and is currently making his signature body-sculptures for pop icon Lady Gaga.

Li will be presenting his new work live at Towards A Fluid State on December 5th 2009.

Woodward is a part of a movement of free thinkers who are change agents for The State.

Her work communicates with a language of the virtual and the real, the programmed and intuitive. Her concern lies with what we find ourselves seduced by and what we resist or conceal. The identifiable is played with both on and off a surface, using the canvas and props in which signs slide across the surface and behind edges. Left behind are gaps or holes where the creation of an interior can be entered.

Visually and physically the work is liable to move and slip. Elements reorder and reappear and are duplicated, enlarged or inverted. Parts briefly collect and then disperse making connections across and within works.

She was most recently shortlisted for 4 NEW SENSATIONS: A CHANNEL 4 PRIZE FOR SAATCHI ONLINE 2009 UK GRADUATES and exhibited in the exhibition Bold Tendencies III which has received rave reviews from the likes of The Guardian, Art In America International Review and Time Out as well as many others.
